Our Workshops and Programmes

Developing a Growth Mindset (For Educators)

Growth mindset is the belief that one’s talents, abilities and intelligence can be developed through hard work and practice and it is recognised as a powerful teaching and learning tool. However, individuals of a fixed mindset believe that a person’s intelligence and ability is fixed and therefore cannot be changed. Fostering a growth mindset in students is critical to their academic success and development of life-long learning skills.

As educators it is important that we adopt a growth mindset approach to our pedagogical practices, in this way we ensure and promote equity within the classroom. Therefore, like students we must continue to learn, grow, reflect and change to meet the diversity of our students.

This workshop is designed to help you gain the tools to empower students to develop life-long learning skills. The workshop explores wider issues that may impact on mindset such as identity, mental health and wellbeing and self-esteem.

Developing a Growth Mindset (For Students)

Mindset training is a critical tool for a student’s academic success. Developing a growth mindset enables students to recognise that intelligence and talent is not something that you are born with but instead something that you must nurture and develop over time. This workshop is designed to help empower students to embrace challenges as an opportunity for learning. Through this workshop, students are able to see the benefits of learning and strive to become autonomous learners.

Unconscious Bias

Our unconscious mind can have a strong influence on our everyday behaviour, judgements and decision making. The workplace is not immune to bias and therefore, such biases can have a negative impact on our colleagues and students.

During this workshop you will explore what unconscious bias is and how it impacts on your judgement and decision making. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the roots of their own biases and develop strategies for over-coming unconscious bias to improve performance and build a positive working and learning environment.

Facilitating Conversations on Race and Difference

Talking about race and difference can be difficult and it is often the reasons why people avoid engaging in such discussions. However, our society has become increasingly diverse and interconnected. For us to fully appreciate and celebrate our differences we need to talk, listen, learn, reflect and take action.

This workshop is designed to equip staff with the skills to plan, embed and conduct conversations on race and difference in the classroom whilst ensuring that they are maintaining a safe learning environment. Additionally, this workshop will equip staff with the confidence to talk about race and difference with colleagues. This will help create an inclusive working environment, improve working relationships and moral.

Exploring Race, Identity and Difference

Exploring who we are and what makes us who we are is complex and too often we explore our identities in silos. However, it is important that we recognise that we are all individual, formed from multiple identities. Understanding and navigating that complexity is critical to understanding how to create an inclusive environment.

During this workshop you will have the opportunity to engage in frank and open discussions on race, racism and difference. Participants will reflect on their own race and identities, inequalities, privilege and recognise the benefits of embracing difference.

Decolonising and Diversifying the Curriculum

To decolonise the curriculum goes far beyond the reading list. It requires a critical evaluation of self, the learning environment, what you teach and how you teach it. It requires the dismantling of assumptions and the inclusion of diverse perspectives that reflects the student body and the wider society. The careful design of the curriculum can provide learners with opportunities to broaden their knowledge, become culturally aware and appreciate diversity. Furthermore, decolonising and diversifying the curriculum can improve the attainment and the experiences of learners.

The workshop will allow participants to explore the contents of their programme/course materials and develop pedagogical approaches to break down barriers to learning and provides opportunities for diverse voices and experiences to be heard.
